Company History

Upon returning from active duty with the United States Air Force, Walter F. Fyda founded and incorporated The Fyda White Truck Co. on October 19, 1954. Initially, The Fyda White Truck Company had a staff of six employees and was responsible for selling and servicing White trucks in the Youngstown and Warren, Ohio market areas.

In October of 1974, Mr. Fyda’s son, Bob Fyda, came to work for the Company. Bob worked in all the operations of the business and within three years became President in 1977.

Late in 1985, the Company expanded to Columbus, Ohio. In September of 1987, after eight years of Air Force duty, Tim Fyda, another son of the founder, joined the Company. Tim settled in Columbus to manage the Columbus operation.

In 1993, Fyda Freightliner received the highest award possible for a truck dealership. At the ATD Convention, held in Washington, DC, out of more than 2,500 truck dealerships in the United States, Fyda Freightliner was named the American Truck Dealer Association/Business Week Magazine Truck Dealer of the Year for 1993. The dealership was recognized for its contributions to the industry, to its community, and service to its customers.

In 1996, Truck Sales and Leasing Magazine, and the Truck Blue Book Used truck value guide named Fyda Freightliner the National Franchise Used Truck Dealer of the Year. The award honored Fyda Freightliner for superior sales and business skills, contribution to the credibility of the profession, and their involvement in the community.

Fyda Freightliner, now a well recognized Dealer in the nation, continued to expand. In November 1996, a third location opened in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The following year, a fourth location was added in Erie, Pennsylvania. As a result of our growth and commitment to the customer and industry, Fyda Freightliner received one of the most incredible awards in the Trucking Industry. In February of 1997, at Freightliner’s National Sales Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, Fyda Freightliner was honored as Freightliner’s Dealer of the Decade. This award recognized Fyda Freightliner as the Dealer that most exemplified Freightliner’s ideals of aggressive market penetration and unsurpassed customer support while continually adjusting for the future. In January of 2000, Fyda Freightliner acquired the Freightliner territory in Cincinnati, Ohio.
