The Beginning

It all started in 1972 when Calvert City’s, Kenny Lovett, came home from Vietnam and found himself searching for work. He knew from his time in the military that he enjoyed mechanic work and was good at it. After consulting with close friend, Polk Brooks it was apparent owning his own equipment repair business was his calling. In addition to repairing lawn mowers, chainsaws and other small engines, Kenny eventually started selling them as well.

After finishing his career in the armed forces, Kenny obtained a degree in small engine repair from the Paducah Area Vocational Education Center to aid in his dream of starting and running his own business. The degree he received from the school included the study of principles of internal combustion, engine operation, use of manuals and customer relations. With the ability to work on most machine brands as well as sell them, business began to grow eventually to the store we all know and love, CFI.

The 1987 Fire

17 Years after initial opening, disaster struck CFI. Although no one was killed, the entire building was engulfed in a fire. Founder and owner Kenny Lovett even suffered first, second, and third degree burns in the chaos. Burnt to the ground, it was estimated the value of the building and its contents ranged from $350,000 – $500,000. Luckily, with the repair shop and storage barn unharmed by the flames, CFI was able to resume business for repairs immediately. However the parts and showroom were put on hold. Almost a year later the parts inventory and showroom building was completely rebuilt and has since been expanded to the building we know today.
