In 1986, the revered heavy machinery company Caterpillar manufactured a unique line of tractors with rubber tracks instead of wheels and branded them Challenger. An instant hit in the agriculture industry, Caterpillar sold Challenger to AGCO in 2002, and AGCO continues to produce the rugged, heavy-duty tractors that farmers all over the country have grown to love. The Challenger line now features wheeled tractors that deliver the same quality performance and ease of use as the rubber-tracked models. 

Articulated 4-Wheel Drive Tractors

Articulated tractors are high-powered agricultural tractors that articulate or bend in the middle. Challengers line of articulated 4-wheel drive tractors includes:

MT900E Series (500-600 HP)

The MT900E Series of Challenger tractors come with a heavy-duty 16.8L engine that features dual twin turbochargers, a massive frame, and the largest axels in the industry at 5.7 inches. These tractors can easily pull large tillage and seeding implements with their heavy-duty hydraulic lift system. This system has a base flow of 59 GPM and can be upgraded with an optional 85 GPM hydraulic pump. The MT900E Series features models MT955E, MT965E, and MT975E. 

High Horsepower Row Crop Tractors

Challenger’s high horsepower row crop tractors feature a fixed frame and are capable of handling all the same heavy-duty work as the articulated tractors. The tractors in this category include the following:

1000 Series (396-517 HP)

Challenger’s 1000 series tractors’ claim to fame is the AccuDrive power train, which maximizes engine power at slower speeds, giving farmers the ability to pull the heaviest equipment through in the most challenging conditions. These tractors feature a six-cylinder, 12.4L engine that delivers 1,770lbs of torque. The 1000 series tractors include models 1038, 1042, 1046, and 1050.

MT600E Series (270-370 HP)

The MT600E Series tractors feature the AGCO Power 8.4L engine and a more direct transmission to engine path so the drivetrain delivers the most power to the ground. The tractors in this series include MT645E, MT655E, MT665E, MT675E, and MT685E. 

MT500E (115-200 HP)

The MT500E Series tractors are forged from cast iron, so they can handle a heavy amount of work years. Model numbers MT515E, MT525E, MT535E, MT545E, MT555E, and MT565E feature an AGCO Power 6.6L engine. Model numbers MT575E, MT585E, MT595E feature a larger AGCO Power 7.7L engine.

Challenger is known best for its track tractors, which provide superior traction on difficult terrain. Challenger track tractor models include the following:

MT800E (460-600 HP)

The MT800E Series tractors feature high-powered AGCO 16.8L engines, rugged CAT powershift transmissions and wide-swinging hydraulic drawbars. The MT800E series models include MT845E, MT855E, MT865E, and MT875E. 

MT700 (380-431 HP)

The MT700 series tractors feature the AGCO Power 9.8L Tier 4F seven-cylinder diesel engine, the ACCU-VT stepless transmission, and multiple hydraulic options so farmers can use a range of implements easily. The MT700 series models include Mt738, MT740, and MT743. 

MT700E (355-405 HP)

The MT700E series tractor feature AGCO Power 9.8L engines heavy-duty CAT powershift transmissions that provide eight gears and a maximum speed of 25 MPH. The MT700E series models include MT755E, MT765E, and MT775E. 

Utility Tractors

Utility tractors are often used for pulling equipment or for being fixed with attachments for dozing, breaking, and trenching. Challenger utility tractor models include the following:

MT400E

The MT400E Series tractor features an AGCO Power 4-cylinder, 9.4L engine that includes an intercooled turbocharger and a high-pressure common rail direct fuel injection. Smaller than other Challenger tractors, these models have superior maneuverability and are designed for operator comfort. Models MT455E and MT465E include the Autopower IV transmission. Model MT475E includes the TechStar CVT transmission and model MT485E includes the Autopower IV, the Autopower VI, or the TechStar CVT. Model MT495E includes the Autopower VI or TechStar CVT transmission.
